Every year too many Kiwi men's lives are claimed by medical conditions and diseases that could have been diagnosed and treated effectively had they been caught earlier. Many of them could be saved. And that's why, in November this year, Rick Martin of Cornerstone Group is going to go for the ride of his life - and possibly yours. prostate cancer, donate money to prostate cancer, new zealand

He's going to put his own backside on the line, literally, by cycling from Bluff to Cape Reinga, with the aim of encouraging men throughout the country to have annual wellness check-ups.

Rick says, "I want to get as many people together as possible to meet and ride with me into town at the end of each day's ride to make as much noise and gather as much attention as possible for this worthy cause. This is an open invitation to anyone who can ride a bike!

I have to say I'm surprised at how many men I speak to that either haven't been checked at all or don't get regular wellness checks - as I do each year. It's thought that the annual death rate from prostate cancer alone could be cut by up to 40% - that's 250 lives - through the simple process of annual checks.

There is absolutely no reason why the lives of so many New Zealand men are lost when a simple check-up may make all the difference. Early detection is the key and if I can help encourage more men to be checked and thereby decrease these statistics it will all be worthwhile.

I want guys to print the "Male WOF" checklist from the website take it to their doctor and get checked. While you're there book next years visit as well. You owe it to yourself and your family".

Rick's wife Tania will be the main support person and will follow Rick for the entire length of the ride.  Tania will cycle out and join Rick as he rides into town each night.

Tania would like women to download the checklist for the men in their lives. Tania says " Our 'blokes' are often very good at looking after us, working long hours, playing sport and organising social get-togethers with friends and family. However for whatever reason when it comes to their wellbeing, and particularly visiting the doctor, it is often a different story. I think we as women would all have at least one 'bloke' in our lives - whether it be a father, husband, friend, partner, son, uncle or grandfather - that need our encouragement to get themselves checked. Please show you care by downloading the Male WOF Checklist now and giving it to the man or men in your life that you feel need it and encourage them to get checked."
